NYX Collection & Review

Recently, I discovered NYX when shopping on Very.co.uk and I’ve heard a lot of good things about their lip collections ‘Lingerie Liquid Lipstick’, ‘Liquid Suede Lip Cream’ and ‘Soft Matte Lip Cream’ so I absolutely had to buy some. And then I went back a few days later after my first order had arrived and bought some more, plus a contour kit – so it’s safe to say I’m officially all NYX’d out. For now. In total I bought 9 lip products and as mentioned, my highlight and contour palette, which won’t be mentioned in this post but keep your eyes out for that featuring soon! This is a kind of first impressions/review post and boy is it a good one!

The first lip product I bought was from the NYX Lingerie collection. I only bought one from this particular collection because at first glance, the shades all look pretty similar but after doing some research and seeing swatches there’s actually quite a variation of shades under the nude category! Anyway, I ended up getting Bedtime Flirt and here’s how I got on with it!

Quick Review: NYX Lingerie Liquid Lipstick

Pros:

Easy application

Easy to fix mistakes

Dries to matte

Long lasting

Affordable

Cons:

Clings to dry and cracked areas

The Lingerie is described as ‘a weightless liquid lipstick with a plush matte finish’. I found that is glides on super easy and looks effortlessly flawless, so the application process is pretty great. If you work quickly mistakes are easy to correct without too much hassle, which is always a bonus when you’ve got unsteady hands like mine! As expected, it did dry to a matte finish pretty quickly and does last quite a while without having to retouch. In fact, the staying power of this product actually shocked me. If you’re looking for a no-budge nude, look no further! However, with all those positives there’s bound to be a negative – it does cling to dry skin or cracked lips. This little madam will seek out any of my slightest dry areas on my lips and create a less than sexy look which happens to be the complete opposite to a seductive lip lingerie as hoped for. I battle this by putting on a layer of vaseline at the start of my make up process so that by time I’m at my lip stage it should have soaked in. I wipe off any excess and then apply my lip product as usual – this has definitely helped get a better end result for me! I will definitely be using the one shade I did get, as well as purchasing some more in the future. I currently have my eyes on Honeymoon, Teddy and Exotic.

Quick Review: NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick

Pros:

Velvet smooth application

Great choice of colours

Dries matte

Doesn’t dry my lips

Affordable

Cons:

Takes a while to dry

Smudgey until dry

Doesn’t last through meals

The Liquid Suede range is supposed to dry to a waterproof and matte finish, according to the NYX website. I bought Soft-Spoken and Tea & Cookies. The application of these lipsticks just feels so luxurious, I could apply it all day long. It’s velvety smooth and although, yes, it does dry to a matte finish, it’s definitely not instant and you definitely need to be careful not to smudge it until it’s dry otherwise it will go everywhere and boy does it take some hard work to fix mistakes! I personally haven’t had the chance to test if it’s waterproof, however when I did apply it to my boyfriend as a joke (oh the things he lets me do!) he did scrub it off with water. It didn’t take to long to get off, however it did smear all over his face with he then had to wash entirely to get off – so I guess it could be waterproof. Saying this, it definitely doesn’t take as much work to get off as Kylie’s Lipkits. Although it takes some scrubbing to get off I’ve noticed it doesn’t really last through meals, which seems odd to me. There are some unusual colours in this range that I personally would not try, such as bright blue, orange and purple, but if that’s something you’re looking then look no further! I don’t know if I’ll be buying more of this range purely because the two I’ve bought are probably the only two shades I’d dare to wear, but overall they are a great product.

I also bought 5 NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams, which might seem excessive to say I haven’t tried the brand before, but I had seen so much positivity surrounding these particular lip products that I thought I might as well! I am absolutely in love with the range of shades and found it difficult to not buy a million and one products! I ended up going for London, Cannes, Rome, Antwerp and Istanbul which are all nude/neutral/pink tones.

Side note, I realise I haven’t got any photos of Istanbul – when it came around to taking photos I couldn’t find it! Apologies.

Quick Review: NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams

Pros:

Creamy application

Dries to a matte finish

Smells incredible

Don’t cause dry/cracking

Affordable

Even fade

Quick drying

Good colour options

Cons:

Lighter shades need extra layers to get good cover

Requires regular touch ups

The pros definitely outweigh the cons on these lipsticks. I’ve been on the hunt for matte lipsticks that don’t make my lips looks like a hot nasty mess, and I think I’ve finally found one! The thick creamy application is so luxurious and the pigmentation is great on most shades, however some of the lighter shades such as London or Istanbul, I find that they require at least one extra layer to get a good coverage. Funnily enough, my darkest shade – Rome – also takes a bit of work to apply otherwise it’s a little bit patchy. I personally don’t find this to be an issue, apart from it taking a little while longer to get the fully matte finish due to extra layers or wet patches. I’m also sold on any lip products that smell like marshmallow or vanilla cupcakes, which means as soon as I opened my first tube and smelled the sweetness, I knew I’d like them. The staying power of these lip creams is great – unless you’re going to be eating or drinking. I went out for a coffee with a friend and although it didn’t smudge everywhere or rub off on my mug, it did wear off in the process of my coffee and cake. This may bother some people but I don’t really expect any lip product to stay on when I’m scoffing down food or drink as I’ve never found one that lasts properly – so this wasn’t a disappointment in the slightest. Over all, I absolutely love these lip products and will most definitely be making some more purchases over the coming months to build my already large collection!

If you’ve tried any of these NYX collections before, what would you recommend? Did you like the products?

XO,

Ashley

I’ve tried both the lingerie lip sticks and the soft matte creme ones, i really like both. They don’t really stand up to high end liquid lip sticks but thats expected. And I agree they don’t stay on when I eat or drink (which Im fine with). But overall I like the product.

With it sticking to the dry patches, I totally agree. I just make sure to exfoliate and and moisturize my lips first and then its a pretty good application.

Im glad you like them! NYX overall is such a good drugstore brand. Great post

I must admit I’m impressed with the collection I have! I’ve heard so much about NYX but could never get my hands on shades I wanted until now and I don’t regret any of my impulse buys! I’ve never tried lime crime but I’ve heard they have quite a lot of similar traits! xo

They’re amazing for the price! Obviously high end will probably last longer and not dry the lips – but these are the things to be considered when purchasing! I personally adore NYX and can deal with the minor issues like these! xo

They really are a great little product and although don’t fully compete with high end products they’re definitely worth a purchase! Aw thank you, I’m still working on my layout so that’s a great compliment ❤ xo

They’re definitely worth the purchase if you’re looking for some variety! The shades and textures are incredible, and although higher end stuff will be less dry and last longer, for the price these are deffo worth it! The soft matte lip creams are a favourite of mine! Xo

Don’t they feel incredible to put on?! Surprisingly, as much as I love liquid suite they’re my least favourite of the 3 ranges! Still love them though! Thank you lovely xo

I’m definitely a nude kinda girl so I like London and Cannes from the soft matte lip cream and Bedtime Flirt from lingerie. Soft-spoken form liquid suede is also the perfect brown-nude! I guess it depends on what shade you like xo

This is a awesome review! I love NYX products and quite frankly just discovered them myself because I was looking for a change. So far, so good! However, this post is a huge help to continue exploring their products.

I completely agree with this review! I’ve always found a lot of th NYX products to dry/ crack or just come off really easily! The only ones that’s kinda work for me are the lip lingeries and I’m not a massive fan of the colour range available x

I think the dryness is the biggest issue with NYX lip products. Although I don’t think for under £10, you can’t really complain about much else! I love the lingerie range, the whole point of it is for it to be ‘nude’ I guess – for that ‘sexy’ your lips but better look. I personally love the shades available but think they should definitely use that formula and bring more variety to colours! xo

Ah I feel like everyone loves NYX so much! Personally I’m a little on the fence but I only really have two products so I’d definitely need to buy more to properly form an opinion I guess. My only real problem with NYX lip products is I find them to in general be a little drying throughout the day…

I would have to agree with them being drying. I find that if I keep my lips moisturised it’s not too much of a problem, but reapplying lip balm means reapplying the product as well. I don’t find this to be an issue but I know a lot of people like one application and for that to last the day! I For the price, I don’t think they’re bad products they just need a little prep beforehand! xo

I actually have the Liquid Suede in Amethyst – the bright purple one – and I really like it! I wear it to work (I work the night shift which doesn’t require us to face clients/bosses) and it always gets a ton of good/bad looks 😛
